Set volume status

A storage volume is an identifiable unit of data storage. Storage groups are sets of volumes.

Prerequisites

You cannot set the status of an unbound thin volume.

About this task

To set volume status:

Steps

  1. Select the storage system.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Individual volume: Select Storage > Volumes, select a volume, click An icon showing three dots arranged in a vertical row, signifying a menu with more options, and click Set Volumes > Status.
    • All volumes in the storage group: Select Storage > Storage Groups , select a storage group, click An icon showing three dots arranged in a vertical row, signifying a menu with more options, and click Set Volumes > Set Volume Status.
  3. Set the volume status. Possible values are:
    • Read/Write Enable—Changes the write-protect status of the volumes to be read and write enabled on the specified director ports for any locally attached hosts.
    • Write Disable—Changes the write-protect status of the volumes to write disabled on the specified director ports for any locally attached hosts. This option only works on volumes that are in a write-enabled state.
    • Device Ready—Changes the User Ready status of the volumes to Ready.
    • Device Not Ready—Changes the User Ready status of the volumes to Not Ready.
    • Hold—Causes the Hold bit to be placed on a volume. The Hold bit is automatically placed on the target volume of a Snap session.
    • Unhold—Causes the Hold bit to be removed from a volume. The Hold bit is automatically removed from the target volume of a snap session when the snap session is removed.
  4. Optional: Select SRDF/Metro.
  5. Optional: To force the operation when the operation would normally be rejected, select SymForce , if available.
  6. If the selected volumes are mapped, you can select to change the status for a particular Director or all directors.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • Click Run Now to perform the operation now.
    • Expand Run Now and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.
